ABOUT Alison Haddock Hutton
helps IoT companies successfully navigate the evolving data privacy landscape and protect themselves from patent infringement allegations. Ms. Hutton offers creative and practical solutions to the legal challenges facing her clients, and strategies that further their business needs in a cost-effective manner. Her past clients include Cisco, AT&T, ARRIS, Verizon, Charter Communications, and T-Mobile, among others.
In the patent litigation sector, Ms. Hutton has represented clients in matters relating to wireless LAN and telecommunications systems, DSL technology, semiconductor fabrication, medical devices, cloud-based clinical documentation and speech recognition systems, and online paperless billing systems, among others. She has also represented global sports organizations and owners and advertisers of some of the world's most well-recognized brands in trademark and false advertising suits and defended individual and corporate clients in white-collar and general commercial matters.
Ms. Hutton has first chaired and second-chaired numerous trials and hearings, including Markman and summary judgment hearings. She is familiar with all stages of litigation at both the state and federal level, and frequently takes a lead role in coordinating joint defense groups in multi-defendant cases and multi-district litigations.
In addition to litigation and contested matters, Ms. Hutton helps clients develop and manage data protection and privacy policies. As a Certified Industry Privacy Professional/United States, Ms. Hutton has a comprehensive understanding of the United States sectoral privacy regime, and has also counseled clients on GDPR compliance.
Ms. Hutton also has an active pro bono practice, particularly in the area of voting rights law. She acts as an election monitor for Election Protection Georgia, coordinated an Ohio Call-In center for the nationwide Election Protection coalition in November 2008 and 2010, and worked with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to prepare a brief amicus curiae in the Crawford v. Marion County Election Board voting rights case before the United States Supreme Court.
Ms. Hutton is a 2005 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a semifinalist in the William Minor Lile Moot Court competition, a member of the UVa Mock Trial team, and managing editor of the Virginia Law Weekly. Ms. Hutton received her undergraduate degree from Duke University, which she attended on a full tuition B.N. Duke scholarship. While an undergraduate, Ms. Hutton interned both for the Honorable Leslie Crocker Snyder in the New York County Supreme Court and for the Richland County South Carolina's Public Defender's Office.
