Alissa D. Hurns

Alissa (Lisa) Hurns is an associate at WSHB’s Riverside office, where her practice encompasses a variety of civil litigation matters, including employment and commercial and business litigation. Lisa is experienced in creating, reviewing and editing employee handbooks and policies, providing counsel and guidance on employee relations issues, including terminations, and advising on employment and wage and hour compliance.

Prior to beginning law school, Lisa built a successful career as a human resources professional. She grew from a Regional Human Resources Manager to that of Vice President of Human Resources for an international leader in the animal health care industry. Her human resources career spans across various industries including security, telecommunications, manufacturing, and television production. Throughout her career, she has excelled in labor compliance, wage and hour auditing and compliance, risk management, discrimination and harassment complaint resolution, conflict resolution, HR training and counseling, and building strategic partnerships throughout the organizations. Lisa gained a solid knowledge of employment and wage and hour laws at the federal and state level (California and nationwide), and internationally, specifically, Canada and the United Kingdom.

While in law school, Lisa earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in lawyering skills, negotiations, and sports law. She was also awarded the Deans Award for her excellent leadership and service at the Fowler School of Law. Lisa served as a Student Ambassador, assisting the Admissions Department with recruiting prospective students. She also served as the Co-Director of the Annual Entertainment and Sports Law Symposium, Events Coordinator of the Entertainment and Sports Law Society, Secretary and Treasurer of the Diversity and Social Justice Forum, and Honor Council Committee member.

In addition to receiving her Juris Doctor from Chapman University Fowler School of Law, Lisa previously earned her Master of Science in Human Resources Management and her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Economics.
