ABOUT Jamie L. Houston
Jamie L. Houston is an Associate in the Houston, Texas, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. His practice focuses on representing employers in workplace law matters, including litigation in trial and appellate courts, as well as preventive advice and counseling.
Mr. Houston has successfully defended claims involving the United States and Texas Constitutions, Section 1981 and Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Texas Labor Code, and other employment laws and regulations. Additionally, Mr. Houston conducts internal investigations, grievance hearings, and represents public school administrations in termination proceedings before the Texas Education Agency.
In addition to representing employers, Mr. Houston has regularly represented educational institutions in varied lawsuits, including claims of sexual harassment, sexual abuse, failure to accommodate disabilities, discrimination and retaliation, as well as Title IX litigation.
During law school, Mr. Houston was a senior editor for the Kentucky Journal of Equine, Agriculture, & Natural Resources Law, and worked for a pro bono legal clinic. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Houston served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Kenneth M. Hoyt, United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Litigation Experience
Mr. Houston second-chaired a jury trial in the Southern District of Texas. He represented a public school district in an age and gender discrimination lawsuit filed by a former employee following the employee’s termination. The jury returned a unanimous verdict for the employer after a three-day jury trial.
Mr. Houston assisted in obtaining summary judgment in a disability discrimination and post-employment retaliation case. He successfully defended the judgment before the Houston Court of Appeals.
Mr. Houston defended an employer in a failure to hire lawsuit in state court - brought after a federal district court dismissed and the appeals court affirmed the judgment - alleging race, gender and age discrimination arising from the employee’s dismissal due to a reduction-in-force.
Mr. Houston helped an employer obtain summary judgment on a former employee’s breach of contract claim arising from allegedly unlawfully withheld bonus payments.
