Karen Curtin

Attorney Karen Curtin is a life-long resident of Western New York, and feels privileged to have joined the law offices of William Mattar, to provide a voice to those who need representation in both her hometown, and surrounding areas of New York State. Ms. Curtin is a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School of Lancaster, where she earned a Regents Diploma with Honors in Business. She also attended Canisius College, in Buffalo, and graduating with Honors, with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Psychology. While at College, she was very involved in the collegiate and local community. She served in the Student Government, as both Student Senators of her respective class, as well as on the Administrative Board, as Student Body Secretary. Ms. Curtin was also the Director of Special Events for the Campus Programming Board, and the Student Representative on the Admission’s Committee.

Also involved in the local community of Western New York, Karen held the prestigious position of Headmaster of the DiGamma Honor Society, an association which recognizes both a service and academic component, and has been inducted as a Life Member.

Ms. Curtin opted to attend Law School to advocate for others, and attended the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law, which ranked within the top twenty in the country. She received an award of Honors with Accommodation in Research and Writing, and has gone on to publish in the Buffalo News, Radon News Digest, and the Buffalo Environmental Law Journal. Karen has also guest lectured at the University at Buffalo Medical School, Erie Community College, and at various State conferences. She also attended the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA), and is a certified NITA Trial attorney.

Attorney Curtin is admitted to practice in both New York State, as well as the Western District of New York Federal Court. She has conducted and defended thousands of depositions, and held trials in both State, County, and Federal Court. Furthermore, Karen has conducted numerous Administrative Hearings.

Her favorite part of practicing law, which is the reason that she joined William Mattar, P.C., is the ability to give each client a voice, and to be heard, during a time of distress in their lives. Advocating zealously for each client is both her, and Mr. Mattar’s philosophy. Prior to working at the Law Offices of William Mattar, Attorney Curtin did personal injury work on both the defense, and plaintiffs’ sides, including large plaintiff class actions, where multiple people were injured. She also served in the City of Buffalo Law Department, as an Assistant Corporation Counsel, and as Counsel to the Superintendents of the Buffalo Public Schools.

Karen is an active participant in all that she does, and has served on numerous Boards, and Committees in not only the schools she attended, but also those that her family attended, their Church, and their community. She is a Board Member of the Maria Love Convalescent Fund, an At-Large member of the Nichols Parents Association, and former Board Members of the Junior Group of the Albright- Knox Art Gallery, The S.T.A.T.E. Board (Sensitive to a Toxic Environment) and the Clean Air Coalition. Ms. Curtin is also a member of the Buffalo Tennis and Squash Cub of Buffalo, and desires to bring the sport of squash to the larger Community.

In her free time, Karen enjoys developing her skills as an attorney by reading cases, journals, and taking continuing education courses. She also enjoys hiking, gardening, biking and decorating. She engages in various types of boating, and has traveled much of the United States, and a portion of Canada. Her greatest joy, though, is spending time with her son, A.J.
