ABOUT Kate Collins
Kate Collins focuses her practice on general liability and commercial litigation. She represents a wide variety of defendants in State and Federal Court, acting as litigation counsel in insurance defense matters. Ms. Collins successfully defeated a Motion for Summary Judgment in federal court for a client who was sued by a major telecommunications company under the federal telecommunications act.
During law school, Ms. Collins worked as part of a team that filed amici briefs in the United States Supreme Court as well as the Ninth and Second Circuits. During her undergraduate studies, Ms. Collins worked for the United States Department of Treasury during the Bush and Obama Administrations.Education: Ms. Collins graduated Cum Laude from American University Washington College of Law where she was a member of the Glushko-Samuelson Intellectual Property Clinic and served on the editorial board of the Intellectual Property Brief. She wrote her comment on the impact of legal norms on creative production and its critical reception. Ms. Collins has a B.A. in Rhetoric and Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. While at Berkeley she focused on the relationship between discourse and political conflict. Admissions:Ms. Collins is currently admitted in California and eligible to be admitted in Washington DC and Minnesota. Community Activities and Affiliations:Ms. Collins is a part of the seventh generation of her family to be born and raised in Santa Cruz County. She is a graduate of Harbor High School and an active alumna. She participates in the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce, the Women's Networking Alliance and a volunteer for the Girl Scouts. She is an active member of the Advocates, Santa Cruz County's group for new attorneys and the Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz.
