ABOUT Katherine J. Van Dyke
Katherine J. Van Dyke is a Principal in the Detroit, Michigan, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Her practice is focused on advising and defending employers in single and multi-plaintiff actions in state and federal courts and agencies.
Ms. Van Dyke has experience handling claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, breach of contract, retaliation, wrongful discharge, and related tort claims as well as violations of whistle-blower protections, wage and hour laws, and family medical leave laws.
In addition to her litigation and trial experience, Ms. Van Dyke has experience in alternative dispute resolution, including facilitation, mediation, and arbitration. She also focuses on, and has extensive experience in, non-competition, non-solicitation, and trade secret cases. Ms. Van Dyke has defended former employees and their new employers against these claims, and she has prosecuted these claims on behalf of former employers throughout the nation. She also counsels clients on the drafting and implementation of non-competes, non-solicits, and non-disclosures and the termination and hiring of employees with these restrictive covenants. She further counsels clients on the protection of their trade secrets, including safeguarding confidentiality with employees, consultants, suppliers, and customers.
Additionally, Ms. Van Dyke has experience in counseling and advising clients on their employment agreements, employment policies, disciplinary actions, workplace privacy, document retention and management, electronic discovery compliance and management, FMLA compliance, and ADA compliance.
Outside of work, Ms. Van Dyke is involved in various legal and community organizations. She has recently become a resident of the City of Detroit and is committed to its development and revitalization.
Before joining Jackson Lewis, Ms. Van Dyke was a principal in a large Detroit-based firm handling non-compete and trade secrets cases, employment-related cases, and employment and labor counseling for local and national clients. During her academic studies, she was a Jerome P. Cavangh Scholar and a Justice Frank Murphy Honor Society Scholar.
