ABOUT Manita Rawat

Manita Rawat

is the managing partner of the firm’s Silicon Valley office and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group . Ms. Rawat is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and she has a strong technical background in applied mathematics with a concentration in computer science, aerospace engineering and statistical analysis. Ms. Rawat also has a strong technical background in biochemistry.

Ms. Rawat counsels and helps clients on a variety of issues related to intellectual property, working primarily with software, mechanical and aerospace technologies. For example, as a patent attorney, Ms. Rawat supports clients with patent portfolio management, including determining patentability and drafting and prosecuting patent applications to allowance. Ms. Rawat also has significant experience with patent office post grant proceedings (including inter-partes review and reexamination).

Ms. Rawat also has substantial experience in supporting intellectual property issues related to corporate deals, such as mergers and acquisitions and investment funding. For example, Ms. Rawat conducts and leads teams to conduct the intellectual property due diligence on corporate deals, which includes the review of various patent and trademark portfolios, review of licensing agreements, review of intellectual property related lawsuits, and freedom to operate analysis. Ms. Rawat also assists clients in patent licensing and transactional matters, including structuring, negotiating and drafting agreements.

Ms. Rawat has significant experience with providing technical support on patent litigation matters at various stages of a case as well. For example, Ms. Rawat assists in determining infringement and non-infringement positions, and in determining invalidity of issued patents. She has significant experience with claim construction, including drafting briefs and facilitating oral arguments at hearings. Ms. Rawat also has experience drafting and arguing motions related to invalidity.

Ms. Rawat is a 2005 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law and a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno. Ms. Rawat also studied at St. Peter’s College of University of Oxford, United Kingdom, through the Intellectual Property Law Scholars Program. Ms. Rawat is fluent in Hindi and knows basic German. She is also a member of the firm's governing Partners Board and serves on the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
