ABOUT Marlo Johnson Roebuck
Marlo Johnson Roebuck is the Office Managing Principal of the Detroit and Grand Rapids, Michigan, offices of Jackson Lewis P.C. She represents employers on the myriad of laws governing the workplace, including but not limited to Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
With over 20 years of legal experience behind her, Ms. Roebuck is an experienced litigator and employment law adviser to employers of all sizes. She has successfully represented employers in the health care, financial, professional services, automotive, retail, real estate, higher education, manufacturing and life science industries from internal investigations all the way through trial and appeal. She has attained summary judgment and no cause verdicts at trial and arbitration on behalf of clients, as well as procured reasonable settlements in mediation. Ms. Roebuck has also gained a view from the inside by working on-site at a large, multi-state employers reviewing all termination recommendations. Her extensive workplace law practice also includes a focus on the matrix of laws governing the privacy, security, and management of data. When she is not in the court room, she trains senior leadership and human resource professionals on maintaining compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity policies and is a frequently sought after contributor, speaker, and author on preventing unlawful harassment, making religious accommodations, handling tricky terminations, employment law remedies, and best practices in hiring and inclusivness in the workplace. She is co-chair of the firm’s African American Attorney Resource Group.
Before joining Jackson Lewis, Ms. Roebuck had her own practice where she acted as in-house counsel to small business owners. Before that, Ms. Roebuck was an associate and then of counsel to a labor and employment boutique firm in Michigan. She began her legal career as an associate in the Chicago office of a national law firm in its labor and employment and general litigation practice groups. Ms. Roebuck began her professional career as a financial analyst and property accountant at a Fortune 100 company.
While attending law school, she served as the business manager and an articles and notes editor of the DePaul Law Review. Ms. Roebuck clerked for Judge Ann Claire Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and Judge Blanche Manning of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
