ABOUT Mary R. DeYoung
Mary DeYoung has two degrees from the University of Michigan: an A.B. in French (1980, with distinction), and a J.D. (1986, cum laude). Ms. DeYoung is licensed in Washington, has authored two law review articles, and often serves as a speaker at professional seminars. She has been named a Washington Law & Politics “Super Lawyer” annually since 2006.
Ms. DeYoung’s practice is focused on insurance coverage and bad faith, insurance guaranty fund law and appellate litigation. She provides clients advice, and represents them in litigation, on claims raising a variety of issues arising under property and casualty policies. These include claims involving environmental liabilities, construction defects, employment relationships, business and intellectual property torts, business interruption losses, professional liability, directors and officers liability, automobile and homeowners liability, and insurer insolvencies, among others. Representative published cases include: Quadrant Corp. v. American States Ins. Co., 154 Wn.2d 165, 171, 110 P.3d 733 (2005); Shepard v. Washington Ins. Guar. Ass’n, 120 Wn.App. 263, 84 P.3d 940 (2004); J.H. Baxter & Co. v. Central National Ins. Co., 105 Wn.App. 657, 20 P.3d 967 (2001); and Snokist Growers v. Washington Ins. Guar. Ass’n, 82 Wn. App. 1054, 922 P.2d 821 (1996).
When not practicing law, Ms. DeYoung likes to be outside, where her favorite activities include golfing, boating and gardening.
