ABOUT Maureen E. Kelly
Maureen (Meg) joined the firm's Casualty Department in 1998, handling the defense of a wide area of civil litigation including motor vehicle liability, premises liability, general liability, product liability, professional liability and first party disputes. She focuses her practice primarily on the defense of personal injury claims in motor vehicle accidents while also regularly handling premises liability claims on behalf of large grocery stores. Meg also has experience handling product warranty litigation representing manufacturers of household appliances. During the course of her career, she has handled several hundred automobile and premises cases and has successfully tried cases to defense verdicts in several federal and state court jurisdictions in northeastern Pennsylvania.
After high school, Meg studied abroad in Belgium through the Rotary Club where she became fluent in French. Thereafter, she attended the University of Scranton and, while there, earned one of only 20 coveted spots as an intern with the FBI in Washington, D.C. After graduating from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in French, Meg attended Temple University School of Law where she earned her juris doctor in 1995. While in law school, she received the Barrister's Award for distinguished performance in trial advocacy and was a teacher's assistant in trial advocacy classes. Also during her law school years, she clerked for the Honorable John W. Herron of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and worked as a summer associate with a Binghamton, New York general practice firm.
Following law school, Meg served as a law clerk for the Honorable Jack A. Panella of the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas, Easton, Pennsylvania. She began her private legal career with a general civil practice firm in Scranton before deciding to focus her career on civil defense litigation and starting with Marshall Dennehey. Meg is a member of the Lackawanna County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
In the community, Meg is involved with the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania, serving as a troop leader for many years and Cookie Chair. She also served as President of the Friends of the Scranton Public Library.
