Ms. Lisa L. Peterson

Lisa L. Peterson focuses her practice on representing private and public entities in civil litigation matters involving employment and labor, general casualty and premises liability, civil rights, and professional liability claims. She has extensive experience handling employment claims involving wrongful termination, retaliation, Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Title VII, sexual harassment, and discrimination based on gender, race, and national origin. Lisa also handles some areas of labor law, such as wage and hour claims, before the Labor Commissioner.

Lisa’s background also includes counseling and defending public entities in both state and federal courts in matters involving wrongful death, dangerous conditions, automobile, and other general liability claims. She has not only won numerous motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment on behalf of her clients, many of which have been upheld by appellate courts, but is also a proven trial attorney and has successfully tried several cases to verdict.

Experience Highlights

General Liability

•Strategically resolved a premises-liability lawsuit involving molestation for an employer by securing a minimal settlement amount after the case proceeded to jury deliberations following a two-day jury trial
•Obtained favorable verdict for a law-enforcement agency in a jury trial involving First and Fourth Amendment rights wherein the plaintiff sought millions at mediation
•Prevailed on summary judgment on behalf of Child Protective Services in a sexual abuse case
•Successfully resolved a $3 million construction-defect case for nuisance value
•Prevailed at the demurrer stage in a prospective class-action lawsuit involving probation- department fees
•Obtained a nuisance value settlement for a childcare facility on the eve of trial for amount much less than previously offered at mediation
•Successfully resolved a traumatic-brain injury lawsuit following strategic early surveillance of the plaintiff
•Resolved multiple claims for nominal amounts prior to expending unnecessary attorney’s fees and costs

Employment and Labor

•Obtained favorable verdict for an employer in a seven-day disability-discrimination jury trial wherein the plaintiff sought over $4 million in damages
•Obtained dismissal of race- and gender-discrimination case after filing summary judgment motion
