ABOUT Nathaniel J.R. Smith
Nathaniel Smith graduated from Willamette University in 1994 with a B.A. in French and Business Economics. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law in 1998. While at Seattle University School of Law, he was a Lead Article Editor for the law review.
Nathaniel clerked for Judge J. Robin Hunt of the Division II Court of Appeals for a year following law school, then joined a Seattle law firm in 1999. He was actively involved in products liability, professional liability, and premises liability defense, as well as preparing insurance coverage opinions and representing insurers in coverage and bad faith litigation. He is admitted to practice in Washington, Oregon, and California, and is also admitted to practice in the Western District of Washington, Northern District of California, District of Oregon, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Nathaniel has been named a “Rising Star” by Washington Law & Politics. He is a chapter author of the Washington Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance Deskbook and also co-authored a chapter of the Washington Motor Vehicle Accident Deskbook.
Since joining Soha & Lang in 2006, Nathaniel has continued to focus on insurance coverage opinions and litigation, bad faith litigation, and tort defense, both at the trial court and appellate levels. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and reading.
