Philip Sholtz

Philip Sholtz is an experienced trial attorney who focuses his practice on representing individuals, corporations, and public entities across a range of civil matters involving civil rights, employment discrimination, municipal liability, and general liability. Phil counsels and defends clients during all stages of the litigation process, from inception through trial and appeal. His practice also involves handling toxic tort and environmental litigation, including radon exposure and remediation, ammonia gas leaks and exposures, and other chemical exposures. Phil regularly writes on emerging environmental issues impacting the regulated industry as a contributor to Goldberg Segalla’s Environmental Law Monitor, the firm’s weekly environmental publication. He also has extensive appellate experience that includes authoring briefs and presenting oral argument to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Eastern District of Missouri Court of Appeals.

Phil brings to his practice exceptional trial proficiency and deep civil rights litigation experience from spending several years as an Assistant Attorney General in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office in St. Louis. While there, he took seven jury and two bench trials to verdict, which involved catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and class action cases. Phil regularly handled claims arising under 42 U.S.C. 1983 as well as employment discrimination claims. Phil’s experience also includes working on complex civil rights class actions. Those experiences culminated in 2015 when he was awarded the Missouri Attorney General’s Office Excellence in Litigation Award in recognition of the outstanding trial results he had achieved on behalf of the State of Missouri.
