ABOUT Raphael J. Berman
Partner Raphael J. Berman, joined the firm in 1995. He is an experienced medical liability trial attorney. He also has written appellate briefs and argued cases at both state and federal appellate levels. In addition, he counsels clients on risk management, liability analysis, and quality assurance matters to assist in the development of defensive strategies for current lawsuits, and to avoid future litigation.
As a former Assistant District Attorney in the Investigation Bureau of the Bronx County District Attorney's office, Mr. Berman handled internal investigations and prosecutions of white collar criminal offenses, including fraud, embezzlement and forgery involving both small and large business entities.
He is a member of the New York State Medical Defense Lawyers Association and The Jewish Lawyers Guild.

Defense Verdict in Kings County
On May 16, 2012, Raphael J. Berman obtained a defense verdict in Brooklyn on behalf of a general surgeon and a major metropolitan hospital center in a case in which the plaintiff experienced complications from two separate abdominal surgeries.
Defense Verdict in New York County
On February 20, 2008, Raphael J. Berman obtained a defense verdict on behalf of an obstetrical group charged with failing to bring the plaintiff in for an examination and sonogram to rule out retained products of conception following a postpartum bleeding episode.
Defense Verdict in Queens County
Raphael J. Berman recently obtained a defense verdict in a wrongful death action in Queens County Supreme Court on behalf of a cardiologist who was requested to render a consultation on a patient who had a longstanding history of severe rheumatoid arthritis. After having two toes amputated because of peripheral vascular disease, plaintiff sued HPM&B's client, a podiatrist, for malpractice on a theory that he should have diagnosed this condition or consulted with plaintiff's vascular surgeon.
